Looking at the impact of new surveying technology
Survey technology and techniques developed fairly slowly in the 20th century. However, the pace of evolution is now very rapid with a strong focus on rapid and increased automated data collection.
In Geodime’s presentation paper entitled ‘The evolution and future of surveying in our industry,’ company director Simon Briggs will examine the impact of new survey technologies on mining and quarrying in the 21st century.
For example, point cloud data from multiple sensors is becoming the norm and Geodime are moving towards virtual reality in their presentation of this data. Remote sensing now extends well beyond simple measurement. The challenge now is how the industry can best manage this data to make operations as efficient, economic and sustainable as possible.
