Addressing the carbon challenge

Addressing the carbon challenge

Hanson UK’s parent company, HeidelbergCement, has set an ambitious target for net zero carbon concrete by 2050. The Mineral Products Association has also launched its own roadmap to beyond net zero by 2050 and there are a number of opportunities available to achieve this.

With HeidelbergCement committed to the net-zero carbon challenge, Marian Garfield, Hanson UK’s sustainability director, will be presenting ‘Hanson UK’s path to carbon neutrality’ which focuses on the progress made by the company to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions since 1990.

Meeting the climate challenge is a herculean task and Ms Garfield’s presentation paper will cover the technological developments and innovations that are vital to delivering net-zero manufacturing and helping to reduce emissions from the built environment.

The company has already made great strides in reducing its carbon emissions and further reductions are being met through fuel switching, hydrogen use and carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects.
