Parksafe Group to showcase new HFR system for off-highways industry
Parksafe’s Zone AI system uses Human Form Recognition technology to detect pedestrians and provide real-time alerts to operators

PARKSAFE Group have announced the launch of their new Zone AI Human Form Recognition (HFR) camera system, a cutting-edge safety solution designed to help meet Balfour Beatty compliance requirements while improving on-site safety standards.

The system is designed for use across a wide range of off-highway machinery, including forklift trucks, excavators, and other construction equipment operating in environments where pedestrians and machines work in close proximity.

The need for improved safety technology remains significant. According to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), 45 construction workers lost their lives in 2022/23, underlining the risks present when heavy equipment operates near ground personnel.

Real-time pedestrian detection
Parksafe’s Zone AI camera system uses Human Form Recognition technology to detect pedestrians in real time and issue immediate alerts to equipment operators. When a person enters the system’s detection zone, the technology triggers visual and audible warnings designed to reduce the likelihood of collisions.

Key features of the Zone AI safety camera include:

  • AI-powered cameras for pedestrian detection
  • LED pedestrian display providing visual alerts
  • Audible alarms for operator awareness
  • Optional monitor display for additional visibility
  • Optional ‘digital thumbs-up’ system for safe approach authorisation
  • Optional DVR for event recording and compliance reporting

Together, these components form a multi-layer safety system aimed at enhancing communication between operators and ground workers. A key feature of the system is Parksafe’s pre-wired loom, designed to standardize connections and ease installation across various machines. This approach is intended to reduce installation time, facilitate easier diagnostics, and minimize equipment downtime.

Human Form Recognition systems are increasingly being adopted across the construction sector as contractors seek additional safeguards beyond traditional training, signage and site procedures.

With major contractors like Balfour Beatty now requiring HFR technology on selected projects, systems such as Parksafe Group’s Zone AI are becoming an increasingly common feature in modern construction fleets.

By integrating automated pedestrian detection with clear visual and audible alerts, HFR technology seeks to assist operators, improve on-site awareness, and minimize the risk of plant-to-person incidents.
