Hillhead 2026: Thwaites unveil new safety and zero-emission dumpers

THWAITES will present a ‘triple crown’ of dumpers at Hillhead 2026, focusing on safety, sustainability, and operator performance.

Among the key exhibits will be the compact equipment manufacturer’s new nine-tonne ROPS+ model. Developed in response to evolving industry safety standards, the ROPS+ system features a wraparound steel frame, a pull-down roll bar, and a triple-lock motion-inhibit function. The machine will start but not move until the operator is seated, the seatbelt is fastened, and the overhead bar is securely locked, with built-in safeguards to prevent workarounds.

The innovative ROPS+ system was designed and manufactured by Thwaites in 2025 as a serious safety solution to the changing industry standard. Initially launched for the six-tonne series, the dumpers were well received by both UK hirers and contractors.

The new nine-tonne ROPS+ dumper is an alternative to the fully cabbed machine. It is a fully compliant option for contractors and an alternative for hirers, offering a safe system that protects operators and eases pressure on ROI.

Also making their debut are the zero-emissions two-tonne hi-swivel and three-tonne power swivel dumpers. Powered by maintenance-free lithium-ion batteries, these machines deliver a full day of reliable operation on a single charge, making them ideal for urban and confined-site applications where low noise and compliance with emissions regulations are critical.

Completing the display is the production version of Thwaites’ nine-tonne Rotator dumper, featuring a rotating operator position for 360-degree visibility. The cab incorporates seat presence logic and limit switches to ensure safe operation, while tilt sensors provide audible and visual alerts to indicate when it is safe to tip, depending on ground conditions. A cabbed six-tonne power swivel dumper will also be on show, rounding out the range.
