Company showcases latest in advanced construction technology for earthworks and road workflows
Topcon Positioning returned to Hillhead in June to showcase how integrated software and hardware systems can transform earthworks and road workflows by making processes quicker, easier and more cost-effective.
‘It’s widely accepted that a large chunk of construction expense can be avoided, but to do so we need to minimize ineffective planning, excess materials or even poor communication across the workflow,’ said Andy McCann, machine control business development manager at Topcon Positioning GB & Ireland.
‘By analysing the workflow and identifying these critical pinch points, we’ve been able to develop technology that can transform traditional construction processes and help everyone involved maximize profit and time.’
Topcon 3D machine control systems are just one example of this and were on show at Hillhead 2018.
Using 3D models and GPS data, systems such as Topcon’s newest X53i provide machine operators with precise, real-time positioning data straight to the cab. This helps make earthworks excavation more accurate and reduces potential mistakes or material waste.
Users can then integrate these systems with Topcon’s SiteLink3D software for instant data sharing from site to office – helping engineers save time and improve communication throughout the workflow.
The company used a 14-tonne excavator at Hillhead 2018 to show how the advanced systems are installed on machines.
Topcon also gave demonstrations of their Dynaroad software for visitors looking for a more streamlined approach to project management on major earthwork projects. Used for planning the mass haul of earthworks, Dynaroad is a map-based planning system that creates a construction schedule, automatically calculates material volumes and monitors the progress of projects throughout every phase.
