Company’s patented Intelligent Protection System represents a step up in hydraulic breaker technology
EPIROC, a subsidiary of the Atlas Copco Group, will be using Hillhead 2018 as a platform to showcase a ‘world first in hydraulic breaker technology’. All of the company’s heavy hydraulic breaker attachments now feature the company’s patented Intelligent Protection System (IPS).
Combining Epiroc’s AutoControl and StartSelect functions, the fully automated system provides simpler, more efficient and economical breaker operation than ever before.
AutoControl and StartSelect have been popular features on Epiroc hydraulic breakers for some years. The former optimizes breaker performance by automatically adjusting the piston stroke length.
The latter feature offers manual switching between two modes: AutoStart allows easy positioning at the beginning of the breaking cycle; while in AutoStop mode the breaker stops automatically to avoid blank firing at the end of the breaking cycle.
Epiroc say they have taken these features to a higher level by making them available across their heavy hydraulic breakers range for carriers from 22 tonnes up to 140 tonnes.
IPS ensures that the hydraulic breaker always starts in AutoStart mode. When the contact pressure between chisel and material increases and AutoControl switches from a short piston stroke to a long piston stroke, IPS switches automatically to AutoStop mode. When the chisel breaks through the material, the breaker automatically shuts off and prevents blank firing.
IPS also helps make the breaking process simpler for the operator by automatically adapting the breaker’s operating performance to match any working condition. With its fully automated functionality, this increases uptime and minimizes work interruption, as IPS requires no operator intervention or reaction.
The system provides more accurate and significantly faster positioning of breakers, owing to its centring effect and elimination of blank firing that often results in tool damage. This also prevents mechanical strain on the carrier and extends the life of all wear components. In addition, the physical load on the operator is minimized.
Epiroc UK & Ireland will be showing their hydraulic attachment tools, ranging from breakers from the SB range up to the HP 10000 unit, which is said to be the largest hydraulic breaker in the world.
The company will also be presenting products from its silent demolition tool range and, for the first time at Hillhead, Epiroc’s Mining division will be showcasing their Speedcut diamond wire cutting machine, aimed at the dimension stone industry.
